all2morrowsparties asked: Hey! I was looking through your blog and it looks like you're living the life that I want lol. Just wondering which company you went though when you first moved to asia? Thanks! -Jessie
Well it really depends on the country you want to go to. Overall I’d recommend not going with a recruiting company if at all possible. I’d say first look into the government teaching programs EPIK (South Korea) JET (Japan). I don’t really know much about JET, but EPIK pays well, with pretty standard 9-5, M-F teaching. Researching is key, if you are interested in a school or company, google the shit out of if, try and get in contact with people who are currently working for them, if they are a reputable school or company, they will provide you with contact info for current teachers. The really good teaching gigs though come from being here in Asia though, like in most professions networking is key, I get offered some sort of teaching/tutoring job every week. You gotta get your foot in the door.
I think once you have to teach English to second language learners, you realize how petty people are who freak out about grammar or spelling errors, English is hard, there are so many pointless, nonsensical rules. Who cares if someone accidentally used your instead of you’re, you still understood them right? You really aren’t better than anyone.
